IDENTIFY • VERIFY • INSPECT

Know what a file
actually contains.

File Lab checks real file signatures, calculates SHA-256, finds exact duplicates, spots extension mismatches, reads ZIP/TAR/ISO contents, and creates metadata-clean image copies—all locally.

REAL FILE TYPE

Extensions can lie

File Lab reads identifying bytes inside the file instead of trusting only the filename. If the signature and extension disagree, it flags the mismatch.

EXACT DUPLICATES

Same SHA-256 means same bytes

Files are marked as exact duplicates only when their full SHA-256 values match. Similar-looking images with different bytes are not grouped together.

READ-ONLY ARCHIVES

Look inside without extracting

File Lab can list standard ZIP, TAR, and ISO 9660 entries. It does not execute files or modify disk images.

METADATA CLEANING

Fresh image copy

For PNG, JPG, and WebP images, Formatify can redraw the image and download a new copy without the original metadata blocks. Animated images are not cleaned.
